Gertrude has been enjoying her time with the Fae of late, making crowns of ever abundant lilac buds and even helping in the harvest of woodlice for pickling. As each new day dawns she firmly plucks a nettle leaf and pops it into the teapot for their early morning brew.
The Fae in turn are ever so impressed with this sweet hearted maiden and have gifted her a painted mask with the most sparkling viridian eyes.
Why a mask? You'll have to wait and see...

Well, the explanation had better be good. Gertrude is too pretty to be covered up without good reason. But pickled woodlice! Poor woodlice! Nice headdresses, though.

I know, I was sweeping the steps in the garden today and cringed every time I rolled a woodlouse. So you can imagine, Gertrude really had to steel herself to make those delicacies ;)

lol, when we first moved here to scotland and the children came back from school talking about slaters, i thought it had something to do with roofing! x x
Funny, I had trouble when I first started submitting stories to American publishers. They use the word 'slated' to mean 'scheduled.' Where I come from it means soundly criticised.
Gertrude is looking beautiful and I love her little mask, looking forward to what will happen next.
