Gertrude, the plot thickens...

Gertrude has been enjoying her time with the Fae of late, making crowns of ever abundant lilac buds and even helping in the harvest of woodlice for pickling. As each new day dawns she firmly plucks a nettle leaf and pops it into the teapot for their early morning brew.

The Fae in turn are ever so impressed with this sweet hearted maiden and have gifted her a painted mask with the most sparkling viridian eyes.

Why a mask? You'll have to wait and see...

Well, the explanation had better be good. Gertrude is too pretty to be covered up without good reason. But pickled woodlice! Poor woodlice! Nice headdresses, though.

Missed ya, Mel.

Hi Karey, thank you a million times!

Thank you Jeff!!
I know, I was sweeping the steps in the garden today and cringed every time I rolled a woodlouse. So you can imagine, Gertrude really had to steel herself to make those delicacies ;)

Can't imagine what the Fae are up to... Artful stories for artful dolls.

I knew you'd understand Ruthie ;) Learned a new name for woodlice today - slaters!

Thank you family Furst ;) It's usually mischief!! Am enjoying your blog by the way!

lol, when we first moved here to scotland and the children came back from school talking about slaters, i thought it had something to do with roofing! x x

Funny, I had trouble when I first started submitting stories to American publishers. They use the word 'slated' to mean 'scheduled.' Where I come from it means soundly criticised.

Hi Evelyn, thank you! I shall reveal all soon, hope your little bird boy is finding his wings x x

Thanks Nicomi! I've been enjoying your thoughts and am really looking forward to that latest drawing. The slug has captivated me, which reminds me I found a usable snail shell :)

I am so happy to hear that Gertrude is living such a happy and productive life - and, such a special treasure she has been gifted with! Loveliness all around. I hungrily await the news of "why the mask". Might Mathilda have anything to do with it? I will patiently await the news - and the Firebird and I send you a warm smile ~.~.

Shayna!! I've missed you this week!

Mathilda? She might, but I'm not telling yet ;)Thank you to you and the Firebird, it's a chilly eve and your warmth is much appreciated.

By the way, "The Poetics of Space" arrived today. I've dipped into it and I'm so happy that you recommended it to me, thank you!

Ah Melanie~ I am happy to be back and to see news of lovely Gertrude, her enchanted viridian-eyed mask and surprises in the air, too. I am delighted that you just received "The Poetic of Space" and that already it pleases you! This book is truly a gift and I just love that you now will know it, too! Hi, I am very admiring and inspired by your fab oddities. I have recently begun to make my own oddities, forced out by overcrowding.

Thanks Sophia, you gave me a giggle, I understand that feeling very well ;)
