Thinking Of Japan

"We are no more than candles burning in the wind."
                                                 Japanese proverb

Artist Cendrine Rovini and photographer Chris Jones have organised a limited print run of their wonderful collaboration "Fortitude In The Face Of Planets" to raise funds for relief work in Japan.
A piece of original art work for a very worthy cause, the prints can be found here.

Primoeza is holding a raffle  for one of her beautifully crafted sweaters and is donating the ticket sales to the Red Cross, $500 dollars so far!
The raffle will be drawn at the end of March.

I am  donating 50% of all scarf sales from my Etsy shop to the relief effort.
Until the end of March.
Thank you Alla, Rebecca and Kylla for your support, it's greatly appreciated.

Thousands of Etsy sellers are donating the proceeds of sales,

Or donations can be made directly to the  Red Cross for relief work in Japan.

  2. Such beautiful sentiment Melanie :'( Can't believe what we've been seeing on the news this week, it's so hard to take in. Heartbreaking stuff. Thanks for the post x

  3. Thank you Roisin, it just seems to be going from bad to worse. My heart really aches for them, having spent many years there I know they'll be very pragmatic and work together to get themselves through.

  4. Wow, I didn't realise you had lived there. I can't deny I'm not the tiniest wee bit jealous; I love so many things about Japanese culture and I've always wanted to go over and learn the language for a few years, just never managed to get round to it yet. Sometimes when I'm stressed out or feeling down I'll just put on NHK World and watch their mini-documentaries or the quirky magazine shows like Digista. Under normal circumstances it always cheers me right up! Though the past week it's been heatbreaking, and scary. There have been a few uplifting and touching stories too though. Like the one about cat island. (Apparently they initially thought it had been totally submerged but it turns out everyone, cats and humans, are all safe and well.)

Anyway, sorry for rambling. I had meant to say that I hope any friends or family you have over there are safe and well. Lets hope things start looking brighter for them soon :)
